Garsington Opera: Hansel & Gretel
Garsington Opera ‘Hansel & Gretel’ by Humperdinck
“Each fairy tale is a magic mirror which reflects some aspects of our inner world and of the steps required by our evolution from immaturity to maturity.” Bruno Bettelheim
Humperdinck had a deep respect for the universality of fairy tales and understood that we never really grow out of them. His music is a gloriously rich and lustrous evocation of dark forests where children are lost and found, where witches might lurk but will be overcome in the end.
