Do you have a creative idea you’d like to explore?
We’re offering three £500 Research & Development Commissions to support artists, creatives, community groups, charities and organisations to research, test and develop new ideas.
Whether you’re at the very beginning of an idea or looking to build on existing work, these commissions provide an opportunity to explore new approaches, engage local people, build partnerships and develop ideas that could grow into future projects.
If you know someone who might be interested, please share this opportunity with them.

3. Community Performance R&D Commission for SO Festival 2027

- Community cohesion
Who Can Apply?
We welcome applications from:
- Artists and creative practitioners

- Community groups
- Charities and voluntary organisations
- Informal partnerships and local networks
You do not need a fully developed project or detailed delivery plan. We’re looking for people with creative ideas, curiosity and a willingness to explore what’s possible.
Looking Ahead
These commissions form the first stage of a wider programme of support.
A second round of opportunities will open in December 2026, providing further support for projects that are ready to take the next step.
Please note that receiving a Stage 1 Research & Development Commission does not guarantee Stage 2 funding. A new application process will be required. However, the research, partnerships, community engagement and learning gained through Stage 1 may help strengthen a future application.
